MANNING - On Sept. 2, 1899, Clarendon County Constable Samuel Thomas Tobias, 41, died from injuries he received while serving Clarendon County. At 10:30 a.m. today, more than 113 years after his death, the Clarendon County Law Enforcement Officers Association will unveil Tobias' name on the Clarendon County Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on the Clarendon County Courthouse square.
"We'll have family members that will be coming in from Texas and North Carolina," said Hannah Timmons, a descendant of Tobias who lives in Columbia. "I'll be seeing cousins I've never met before. It'll be like a family reunion."
